Scorched Ear is a new site from radio producer Jerry Modjeski. We first crossed paths in the 1980s at community radio station KFAI; Jerry was part of the Little City In Space production team along with Peter Stenshoel (brother of David, my longtime music partner in Boiled In Lead.) There’s a lot of weird sound already uploaded here, and lots more to come. Short pieces are streaming, and longer ones link out to the community audio section of archive.org. Jerry’s tag cloud (below) ranges from UFOs to fake commercials to the Grateful Dead. He’s also working on a full-length album billed as “The Weird Winonans.” My work on the site has been WordPress setup and training with Jerry, tweaking and tagging the posts, as well as ripping and uploading a lot of the audio. Since it’s hosted for free on WordPress.com, there are many fewer options compared to a self-hosted site, but the upside is zero maintenance and zero cost.
